We joined with La Red to create a visual concept for an interactive birthday-song-generator for the client ING-DiBa and its 50th birthday web special.
The concept was to create funny birthday songs with an intro, three strophes in a row and one outro. Each song is selectable in three different music styles.
Of course, everything is interactively selectable, download-, share- and linkable on the client´s website.
At the end it turned out to be a holy bunch of videos.
The basic visual idea was, to find a 3D / 2D look, somewhere between 2D cell animation and 3D low-poly flat shading.
We decided to go with an old-school storyboarding.
We passed the content really quickly with the storyboards, but spent some weeks to find a solution for the look.
Due to the early concepts of music and songs being a lot crazier, our early looks and storyboards attempts were also.
Over the time, all contents and ideas got smoothed out a lot, but still kept the storyboard ideas.
We cut through the production phase like a hot knife within 4 weeks.
With Kay and Jörn, the longtime 3D artists, and me in compositing and some additional 3D we created everything really fast.
All within Cinema 4D with standard renderer and Adobe After Effects.
When we almost finished the project, we had to do a change to the overall color scheme due to the client´s corporate identity color world.
Nobody likes changes shortly before the end, but we stood strong and close with the agency and had some beer to get over it. So we changed a lot of the basic colors to orange. Though it was not our initial idea in design, it still worked out for me.
